Glass Expanse

Glass Expanse came to Pillar with a vision of a patio door system that truly prioritized usability and unobstructed living, creating an open a space with minimal visual interruption. The core challenge was translating that vision into a manufacturable, market-ready product without an engineering foundation in place. Pillar stepped in as that foundation, guiding the Glass Expanse team from early napkin sketches and cardboard concepts through industrial design, mechanical engineering, design for manufacturing, and prototype development to bring their closure system to life.

What followed is a six-year partnership built on trust, education, and a shared commitment to getting the details right. Pillar's involvement has never been limited to the drafting table. Our team traveled on-site to Temple, Texas, spending three days installing a complete 12-foot panel system alongside Glass Expanse's professional crew to develop a hands-on understanding of how the product performs in real-world conditions. That collaboration has informed continuous refinement across assembly, quality control, and production efficiency. The result is a lean, well-tuned operation and a product that has grown alongside a company now employing a team of 25, a trajectory that reflects what's possible when the right partnership is in place from the start.

On-Site Development

On-site support was a big part of the development work. The Pillar engineering team spent a few days in the field with Glass Expanse's installers, putting in a full 12-foot panel system from start to finish. Being there in person made a real difference. The team got to see exactly how the system goes into new homes and renovations, and they spent time on the production floor learning how everything comes together. A lot of what they picked up went straight back into the design. It helped them clean up and simplify the final assembly, and it gave them a clearer sense of how to build for quality control down the line as production scales up.

"Having a partner that knew what questions to ask cut the learning curve drastically." — -Adam Conley, founder of Glass Expanse
