We gain a better understanding of each product’s challenge through information gathering, hands on research, and in-depth analysis of user interactions to solve complex problems with thoughtful solutions.
We collect knowledge from every project and apply it to new product categories and challenges. Our background designing products in the action sports industry has helped us create durable consumer electronics and housewares while past sustainable materials research has influenced material choices for new health products and innovative packaging.
When available, Pillar conducts user observation to gain a deeper understanding of the end user’s process as well as their needs. We have performed on-site observation at construction sites, large shipping centers, and clinics to gain a better understanding of the problems that users face that are not necessarily expressed to us in the design brief.
Pillar has an extensive knowledge of sustainable materials and emergent manufacturing technologies that we strive to incorporate into our projects. We have created eco-friendly products and packaging for companies including UCO Gear, Amazon, and Ignik.
To stay up to date on trends and emergent technology, Pillar attends various tradeshows and conventions that cater to the industries we serve. Our most recently attended shows include Outdoor Retailer, NAMM (National Association of Music Merchant), SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Tradeshow), and the Canton Fair in Guangdong, China.
Participating in focus groups provides first hand opinions from a wider range of individuals on potential concepts or products that help drive decision making and design direction. We partner with local testing groups that specialize in testing to generate the best feedback.
